My Thirty List

When I was 28 years old I sat down and wrote a list of 30 things I was going to do before I turned the age of 30. I didn't do a very good job of crossing off my list. In fact, I'm now 34, and I still have quite a few things left to do. This list is kind of personal, but I thought by sharing it, some of you may have some ideas on how I can get these things accomplished. I broke down the list into separate categories. There is a twist to this story, please read thru to the bottom.
Hobbies/Goals
1. Study a 2nd Language - uhh, no
2. Study Boxing or a Martial Art - not even close
3. Learn to play the guitar - I don't even own Guitar Hero
4. Save more $$ - ahh hha
5. Get a dog - no, I think I've actually gotten another cat
6. Get married - yes, I'm the luckiest man in the world
7. Get pregnant - yes, my greatest accomplishment (my son, not the act of getting pregnant, although I was pretty good that night)
8. Meet someone famous - yes, I've had beers w/ Cal Ripken and Locke from Lost
9. Build something - no, unless a beer pyramid counts
10. Captain a boat - no, man in the boat overboard
11. Ride a motorcycle - yes, not sure why this was on the list, did it many time before the list
12. Donate time to charity - yes and no, lots of money, not enough time
Sports/Travel
13. Watch a baseball game @ Wrigley or Fenway - No
14. Go deep sea fishing - yes, I didn't know at the time that I was going to live on the Gulf of Mexico
15. Attend 1 of the following: World Series game, Super Bowl, HOF Induction, Final Four game - no, but the Super Bowl and maybe the World Series are here this year, I'm crossing my fingers for tickets
16. Visit NYC - no, how can this be?
Fitness/Health
17. Bench 200 - yes
18. Play in an organized baseball game - yes, it only cost me 4k
19. Shoot Less than 100 in golf - no, but I'm getting closer
20. Catch a citation fish - yes
21. Pass army fitness test - no, I haven't tried to, and I'm not ready to
22. Quit dipping - yes, after 15 years I did
23. Cutout fried foods - no, in fact I'm eating more foods that shouldn't be fried
24. Drink less - no, I forgot I even had a drinking problem 6 years ago
Fears
25. Ride a roller coaster - no, my fear of heights I haven't conquered
26. Go to the Dentist - Yes!
27. Go to the Doctor - no
No wonder I cannot complete my list of 30 things. I am such a procrastinator, that I never even finished the list! And it took me almost 7 years to realize this!
So how about some help from you. I need 3 more things to do, 3 things to add to my list. I'd like to get these things wrapped up by the time I'm 38. That will allow me to put together my 40 list. So post your ideas in the comments section. I look forward to seeing them.
Cheers and Hail

Well Honey - I think you should be proud of yourself for accomplishing all you have. I do have a few comments for you...

1. 2nd Language? - I'm not sure you have mastered one - sometimes when I speak to you in English you don't seem to understand me.
2. Boxing? You are not a violent person
3. Guitar - well, you do have a very good friend who is a musician. I think we can get this one done for you.
4. Save $$ - not a chance. It's about time for a new purse, don't ya think?
5. Dog? - We have cats and a toddler...enough said.
6. Get married - I will just have to agree with your comment on this one.
7. Get pregnant - YOUR greatest accomplishment? I'm pretty sure I did most of the hard work. I agree with your performance review though :)
8. Meet someone famous - I'm sure there will be more...Tanner, are you reading this?
9. Build something - really? how about you just pay someone to build you something.
10. Boat captain? - we have friends with boats...lets stick with that plan for now.
11. motorcycle? - seriously? I have never seen you do that, nor have I seen any pictures of you even sitting on one. Any friends or family members have proof of "biker Douglas"???
12. Charity - me too and probably lots of others, don't feel bad.
13. Wrigley/Fenway - yeah, those are probably cool, but nothing beats Camden Yards!
14. Fishing - plenty more of that to come...
15. World Series, etc. - lets keep our fingers crossed that something in Tampa will work out!
16. NYC - I WILL be going with you and bring the checkbook!
17. Bench 200 - that's hot.
18. Play a B-Ball game - too much $$, but you got to hang out with Cal.
19. Golf - good luck.
20. The fish - again, I'm sure there will be more of that to come.
21. Army fitness test? Really? Why?
22. Dipping - I'm proud of you.
23. Fried foods - nah, you still haven't tried a fried oreo yet. Revisit this one when our boy is much older - ya'll will probably want to share a fried pickle someday (did that sound weird?)
24. Drink Less? Let's keep realistic goals here, Honey. Besides we would all miss "Fun Doug".
25. Roller Coaster - You live by Disney World and Busch Gardens - we will have to work on this fear. You do know that Busch Gardens has beer, right?
26. Dentist - you have nice teeth
27. Doctor - a physical would probably be a good idea.

Here's 3 more for you...listed in order of importance:
1. Win the lottery - I think if I write the words down it will really happen. Then we could almost guarantee that you get these things done by the time you are 40.
2. Buy your wife something pretty (if you succeed at #1, it will be LOTS of pretty things).
3. Keep being the sweetest, funniest, hottest, best husband and father. I listed this one last, not because it's least important but because for you it's a no-brainer. Love ya!
